Mecca for donuts reopens in Malden

Donut Villa in Malden recently reopened under new ownership and was renamed the Donut Villa Diner.

Erin Bashllari and his parents, who are supporting him in this endeavor, renovated the donuts, breakfast, and lunch diner, focusing primarily on making the restaurant meet current city building codes. Much of the rest of the appearance of the eatery remained the same, with the exception of new upholstery on the stools at the counter.

The major changes made were to the menu. In addition to the raised and cake donuts, made from the original recipe, there are many standard eggs-and-bacon breakfast dishes as well as pastrami hash, eggs Benedict, and Belgian waffles. The menu also has many new entrees and sandwiches for lunch, including Buffalo mac and cheese, and a turkey melt.

In addition, some prices were lowered Monday through Friday to show appreciation for the loyal weekday customers.

About 15 to 20 dozen donuts are produced during the week by the family, while 30 to 40 dozen are made on the weekend days. The most popular offering is the honey-dipped glazed donut. Recently, Bashllari added a Bavarian cream donut to the offerings.

Printing companies can be used to create mailers that could be sent to residents of Malden and the surrounding communities to spread the word about revamped eatery, and help attract a new crowd.
