Madison goes to the fair

July 8, 2017 by

The Dane County Fair is just around the corner. The five-day event will be teeming with carnival rides, shopping, youth exhibitors, and plenty of entertainment.

Each day will have a theme. As an example, Wednesday will be Dog Days of Summer, during which everything will be dog oriented. The Madison Police Department will have a K-9 demo, while Teacher’ pet Training Academy will have dog agility and dancing dog freestyle demos. Guests will be invited to bring their dogs for the nose work and Frisbee demonstrations, and there will be a flyball tournament. The Youth and Community Stage will also be going to the dogs.

Thursday will be Hometown Hero Day when all armed forces personnel, firefighters, police officers, and first responders will get free admission. Friday will be Kids Day, Saturday will be Ag Day, and Sunday will be Family Fiesta Day.

A number of food vendors will be selling everything from soft pretzels, shaved ice, and ice cream, to sirloin tips, gyros (Greek kebabs), and tacos.

Carnival rides will have special rates especially on Thursday when all rides will require just one ticket.
Wisconsin kids will have fair projects and animals on display. Winners will no doubt be having their pictures taken for later poster printing, and for family calendars.

The Dane County Fair will run from July 19 to 23 at the Alliant energy Center, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way. Gates will open at 9:00 am and close at 11:00 pm.
