Madison gardens celebrate Christmas with trains and concerts

November 25, 2018 by

Olbrich Botanical Gardens will be bursting with seasonal blooms, music and miniature train displays during December.

The Olbrich’s Holiday Express will feature large-scale model trains meandering through fresh evergreens and hundreds of Poinsettias. Members of the Wisconsin Garden Railway will be bringing their prized large-scale trains including freight, steam, bullet, circus, and Santa trains.

Families looking for places to take pictures of their little ones for this year’s Christmas cards will still have time to get photos taken during the event to local print shops and stationery printers.

Guests may also visit the glass pyramid teeming with a waterfall, flowers, exotic plants, orchards and birds at the Bolz Conservatory, and stroll through the colorful outdoor gardens.

Members of the Gardens can get a sneak preview the day before the public opening (3 to 6 pm). Alive entertainment and light refreshments will be available before and after the show.

A holiday concert series will take place on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 pm in December. The first one will be acoustic rock group Mark Lint’s Dry Folk. The second Sunday will feature Latin jazz and funk-inspired MaR & PS, and the third week will have folk singer, songwriter, actor Tom Kastle. Celtic Folk Music artists The Twa Dogs will end the series on the Sunday after Christmas.

Olbrich’s Holiday Express will be December 1 until 24 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm daily at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Avenue.
