Awards dinner honors those who make a difference

The Goodwill Awards Dinner is taking place in Long Beach next month. It is a fundraiser for Goodwill of Southern Los Angeles County.

The theme of the dinner is “Celebrate the Power of Work.” Guests will learn about the programs and services that Goodwill provides. Most of these programs involve providing jobs for people who have difficulty, including those with developmental disabilities and returning veterans.

The host of the evening will once again be Pat Prescott of 94.7 The Wave. There is set to be a silent auction, a sit-down dinner and an awards presentation. This year, the Community Leader Award will be given to Dan Knabe who is a former Los Angeles County Supervisor. The event will also be a good networking opportunity for local businesses who wish to help the organization.

Silent auction items are typically donated by local businesses and individuals. In order to recognize them, organizers usually post banners and signage obtained from a local printing company.

The Goodwill Awards Dinner will be held at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach on February 22 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. In past years, tickets have cost $50 each and tables for 10 were also available. To find out the cost of this year’s tickets or for the most up-to-date information about the event, contact Paulette Thornton of Goodwill at 323-223-1211.
