Lexington hosts old-fashioned Independence Day celebration

June 30, 2017 by

The Fourth of July Festival is taking place over two days next month in Lexington, hosted by the Fifth Third Bank.

The celebration will start off on July 3 with the Great American Pie Contest and Ice Cream Social at the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion in Cheapside Park. There will be two categories of pies: made from scratch and semi-homemade. Awards will be given to the first, second, and third in each category, and a prize will also be given for prettiest pie. Visitors can sample the pies, as well as purchase ice cream to go along with them.

The contest will be followed by a patriotic music concert at Transylvania University featuring Gregory Turay, the 202nd US Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus, and the Alltech Singers.

The next day will begin with the Bluegrass 10K, which consists of a run, a 10K wheelchair race, and a one-mile fun run. After the run, there will be a street festival which will include the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Main Street Fifth Third Bank. The festival will finish off with a firework display at 10:00 PM.

Lexington stationery printing firms are often asked to provide items such as banners and signs that can be displayed at the various venues.

The Fourth of July festival will take place on July 3 and 4. Call 859-335-8640 for the latest information.
