Electric car and battery manufacturer expands in Lancaster

BYD, a Chinese manufacturer of batteries for cars and buses, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its facility in Lancaster.

It plans to triple the size, the number of employees, and its capabilities over the next three years.

President of BYD America, Stella Li, said at the ceremony that the manufacturer will continue its investment in Lancaster and provide additional opportunities for employment for locals. A digital business card printing company may also benefit from this investment, as many of the new employees will most likely need cards and other related printed materials.

The plant is currently 86,000 square feet in size, employs over 300 people in customer service and production, and delivers 300 zero-emission vehicles every year. The plan is to expand to close to 400,000 square feet in size, add another 700 employees, and assemble 1,000 vehicles per year.

Li added that the company is proud of being able to produce reliable and efficient electric buses and trucks in Lancaster so as to help the local economy with well-paid engineering and manufacturing jobs.

BYD primarily makes rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. As these batteries feature long cycle battery technology, are fire safe, and completely recyclable, the company has expanded its products and services to include utility vehicles, trucks, buses, cars, and energy storage facilities.
