Kingston area rolls up for circus

February 9, 2017 by

Cirque Zuma Zuma will be coming to thearea in a couple of weeks for one performance.

This unique event is not the usual circus fare, as it has been described as part African Style Cirque du Soleil, part Harlem Globe Trotters, and a high-energy dance act.

Some of the 120 performers from Africa Acrobats International will be demonstrating their agility and prowess in performing feats of skill. There will be pole acts, Zumba Zumba acrobats, Tanzanian chairs hand stand balancing, tumblers from Gabon, and contortionists from Ethiopia. There will also be club juggling and Ethiopian foot table juggling.

The show will offer dancing in areas of limbo dancing, female dancing from Africa (including the Lion dance), and South Africa gumboot dancing. The dancing is fast-paced with intricate beats and synchronized steps.

A hula-hoop expert and a female African vocalist will also be part of the program. The program also has a presentation that shows the flags of Africa. An acrobatic clown show will complete the performance.

The music will permeate with pulsating African beats by percussionists from Zimbabwe. Singing and instruments are of pure African origin.

A creative artist here in Kingston could take pictures of these colorful acts and use them for poster printing, stationery printing, and calendars.

The circus will be at the Kirby Center, Public Square, Wilkes Barre next Thursday, February 16, starting at 7:30 pm.
