Janesville group holds dog pull event

The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin will be hosting an Alaskan Malamute Club of Wisconsin dog pull. This event will have canine athletes pulling over 1,000lb each for top honors, and will be family friendly.

Guests can meet the pull dogs, purchase pet supplies, and get human treats at the bake sale, along with hot drinks. There will be a warming room for people to brush off the cold.

The event will actually be twofold – one contest will be for the winners in each category, and the second will have points up for grabs that will be added to points in other pulls. The points will be accumulated throughout the year and awards will be given for “overall” placings at the end of the year.

The awards specifically for this event will be a ‘Times Body Weight’ and ‘Most Weight Pulled’. The ‘Times Body Weight’ category takes the weight of the dog and multiplies that by the amount of weight the dog successfully pulls 16 feet. Dogs that win the Working Weight Pull Dog title must pull 12 times their weight along the 16-foot distance. Many owners like to take pictures of their winning pooches for later poster printing.

The Pooch Pull will be Saturday, February 25 at the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, 222 S. Arch St., Janesville. The event will run from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.
