Continuing its expansion into North Alabama, Publix has plans to open a location at Huntsville’s multiphase development, The Shoppes at Redstone Square.

Tailwinds Development and a representative of its contractor, Huntsville SJ, announced on March 30 that they had entered into an agreement with grocery chain Publix to build a new store, projected to be operational by August of 2018.

The grocery will sit at the NW corner of Martin and Zierdt roads and take up 45,600 square feet. Retail space still available at the site is around 15,400 square feet, which is enough to hold a junior anchor and a half a dozen outparcels.

In February, the Huntsville City Council signed an agreement with Huntsville SJ and Fuquay Commons to enable development. Council approved an expenditure of $400,000 to create access from Zierdt to the site and provide sewer service. Per the agreement construction must be completed and the site open for business no later than December 15, or reimburse Huntsville for the expense.

Any banners announcing the grand opening of The Shoppes at Redstone Square or the Publix store that will serve as anchor will not appear until about the third quarter of 2018. According to the Director of Huntsville Urban Development, Shane Davis, work at the site should commence within the next two months and construction is slated to start by August 1.
