Kalamazoo becomes focus for Halloween celebrations

Halloween is about to descend in the Kalamazoo area, as many haunted houses and other attractions will be opening their doors to celebrate the holiday.

The Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour will be coming to the Mountain House Cemetery on October 23 and 24, and to the downtown on October 30. These tours are sponsored by the Kalamazoo Jaycees and proceeds of the tours go to benefit Warm Kids.

The Block of Terror is an annual attraction during the month of October at Monaco Bay and Wild Bull Saloon in downtown Kalamazoo. There is a festival of Fright, eerie decorations, ghouls, seasonal dining, and a place for live music and fun. Entertainment highlights include the Spazmatics: Halloween Nerdfest on October 24, College Night: Monster Mash on October 29, Devil’s Night: Detroit Rock City on October 30, and the WKFR Kostume Bash on Halloween.

In Dorr, the Witches of New Salem, offers more than 20 attractions and numerous other activities for children during the day, and more chilling experiences for adults at night. Some of the kid-friendly activities include a paintball trailer for testing marksmanship on the paintball shooting gallery, a family-friendly corn maze, farm animals, pumpkin patches, a playground, and homemade donuts and cider. The Witches of New Salem is open Fridays and Saturdays through the end of the month.

The printing of special Halloween holiday cards is one way that these events can be promoted throughout the Kalamazoo area.
