Singers to perform classics in Glenside

January 7, 2018 by

Glenside audiences will be able to enjoy a show soon, when Michael Richard Kelly and Paula Johns join with the Tom Adams Trio to present an evening of music from what is called the “Great American Songbook.”

There is no such book in reality; instead, the term refers to the songs that have become classics over the years, featuring works of composers like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Irving Berlin. The songs come from Broadway and Hollywood, big bands, and jazz groups, and have been recorded in different formats by many artists.

Michael Richard Kelly is one of the co-owners of Dino’s Backstage, as well as being the club’s entertainment director. He was been singing professionally for more than 35 years, and first came to the area in 1983. He began his career as a cabaret singer in 1987, and discovered he fit in perfectly in that medium, winning Philadelphia Magazine’s best cabaret act in 1995.

Paula Johns is a Philadelphia native who is also an experienced cabaret singer and jazz vocalist who has been likened to Ella Fitzgerald. She is noted for the way in which she interprets the songs she sings, as well as the humor she brings to her performances.

There are two shows, January 19 and 20, from 8:30 pm until 9:30 pm. Tickets are available now.

Audience members often want to learn more about the artists, and management can help by creating brochures that provide their biographies.
