Georgetown runs for love of parks

Athletically minded residents in Georgetown are getting ready for the 22nd Annual Cupid’s Chase 5k Run/Walk. The event combines costumes, fun, and exercise all in pursuit of supporting local parks.

The 5K is chip timed and will run through the Georgetown downtown area, local parks, and Southwestern University. Awards are up for grabs for the top male and female overall, as well as the top finisher in each gender and age bracket, which are divided up in four year bands between ages 11 and 70, alongside a 70 and up bracket.

A costume contest will also be held at the finish line, with prizes awarded to the top three cupid-related costumes. Costumed contestants must register at the Gus’s Drug booth to be considered for the contest.

Pets are welcome to join in the fun, though aggressive animals will be asked to leave. All proceeds benefit the local Georgetown Parks.

Additionally, there will be a quarter-mile fun run/walk for children eight and under. All children who participate in the fun run will receive a T-shirt with a special logo design on it.

The Cupid Chase 5k Run/Walk will take place on February 4 starting at 8:00 am at 7th St. between Main St. and Austin Ave. Registration is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and youth, and $10 for the fun run. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
