Major grocery store to open near Gastonia

The Belmont Town Center shopping complex will soon be welcoming a new Harris Teeter grocery store, about one and a half years after construction began.

The store is looking to fill its staffing needs and people from nearby Gastonia might consider seeking employment there.

Among the amenities to be offered at the store will be a pharmacy, pizza and salad bars, a Starbucks coffee shop, and a floral shop. In the parking lot, there will also be a gas station. Customers will be able to make their purchases by means of an online app.

A spokeswoman for Harris Teeter, Danna Robinson, said the company is excited about opening the store in Belmont. Although no specific date has been set for the grand opening, she does expect that it will open in the fall.

More specifics will be provided about two weeks prior to the opening, with a ‘Taste of Teeter’ event to take place a day before. Here, guests will be able to sample the best products in the store and perhaps receive flyers about specials and discounts offered during the opening weeks.

There will be 120 full- and part-time employees at the store, although some will be transferred from other stores. Positions that need to be filled include office assistants, customer service and meat clerks, baker, and barista.
