Gardena roller derby camp makes time for refs

The Angel City Derby Girls are looking to give the tireless officiators who keep roller derby games moving a boost with their 6th Annual Roller Derby Officiating Camp: Get Reff’d Up.

The event is aimed at both newcomers and experienced referees, covering skills for both skating and non-skating officials in levels ranging from beginning to advanced. Each workshop will be followed by breakout sessions where participants can practice the skills they learned. The weekend will include scrimmages between real roller derby skaters, allowing aspiring officiants the chance to put their new knowledge into practice.

On top of the ref training, the camp will also help by covering the new WFTDA rules update that have recently gone into effect. On top of the rules update, there are also plenty of other incentives for coaches and skaters to show up. A one-day pass provides the opportunity to skate and scrimmage with other players, while a two-day pass includes a scrimmage with the #4 world ranked Hollywood Scarlets.

Get Reff’d Up will take place on February 11 and 12 from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm both days at the ACDG Headquarters, located at 1519 W 139th St. Tickets are $49 for one day or $79 for the weekend. Anyone looking for more information should check the flyers or visit the website.
