Over 80,000 local balloon enthusiasts are marking their calendars to attend the upcoming WRAL Freedom Balloon Festival.

The Fuquay-Varina event will run over a three-day period and will feature tethered balloon rides, balloon flights, and evening glows. This year, there will be a classic car show. Disc Connected K9s will have performances, and a Merchant, Arts, and Crafts Village will be hosted by the local chamber of commerce.

Food vendors will be there, as well as a beverage garden. A children’s area will have games and rides. The Carolinas Balloon Association will hold a Pilot Meet and Greet. Live music will be going on at the RE/MAX stage.

There will be an area of military displays and opening ceremonies that will include the commissioning of Field of Flags, the national anthem, and a presentation of colors.

The day following the festival will be Memorial Day at Fleming Park. This will have hot air balloon competitions, and a closing ceremony that will decommission the Field of Flags. The Field of Flags Honor Caravan will then leave to take the flags to decorate gravesites at the area’s military cemeteries.

The festival will be Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 through 28 at Fleming Loop Park 301 Fleming Loop Road. Friday’s hours will be from 2:00 pm until 10:30 pm, while Saturday and Sunday will be from 6:00 am until 10:30 pm. Memorial Day at Fleming Park will be from 6:00 am until noon.
