Ft. Lauderdale to host folk fest

Music Lovers in the Ft. Lauderdale area are looking forward to the 27th Annual South Florida Folk Festival. The event is a combination of music, community, and competition in a two-day celebration.

The music is front and center at the folk fest, featuring two different stages and more than 40 different musicians. Headliners include the Grammy Award winning Suzy Bogguss Trio and ukulele master Victoria Vox. Local talents Vinnie del Basso and That Summer will also be playing.

In addition to the performances, the event will also have lessons and workshops in guitar and ukulele playing led by some of the performers. Jam sessions will also be held regularly, giving aspiring folk musicians the chance to play together. A songwriting competition will also take place during the weekend, offering an award to the best from a list of finalists.

The festival will also have a variety of food and craft vendors supplying local, handmade items as well as booths selling promotional products, CDs, and merchandising for the different musicians.

The South Florida Folk Festival will be held on January 28 from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm and 29 from 12:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, located at 5705 S. Travelers Palm Ln. Admission is $40 for Saturday, $35 for Sunday, and $65 for the weekend. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
