Summerfest Family Theatre now underway

July 24, 2017 by

Frederick’s Summerfest Family Theatre has been entertaining area families for more than sixteen years, and is back again for 2017.

When the series started, three performances were given over the summer; today, eight full-length shows are given on Thursdays in June, July, and August. The actors include some of the most popular children’s performers in the area, such as Milkshake and Laurie Berkner.

The Family Theatre also helps support the area’s needy families by collecting canned food and donations at the shows. The performances are free for everyone to enjoy, but attendees are encouraged to bring canned food instead of paying admission. Nonperishable foodstuffs like pastas and rice, cereal, peanut butter, soups, and canned vegetables, and meats are preferred. The committee also accepts cash donations.

Although some shows have already closed, there are two more performances coming up. This Thursday, July 27, Rocknoceros takes the stage. This is a trio made up of Boogie Bennie, Williebob, and Coach. They’ve been together for ten years, and create songs that are aimed at youngsters.

On August 2, the Rainbow Rock Band takes the stage. Like Rocknoceros, Rainbow Rock Band performs children’s songs as well as songs from genres including rockabilly, rock, and folk.

Events like these can benefit if organizers work with a poster printing company, which can help create colorful advertising posters for each performance.
