Winter festival offers a tasty competition

The 22nd annual Chili Cook-Off is taking place in Frankfort next month, forming part of the Winter on the Green Festival presented by the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce.

There are two categories of competition in the cook-off, Amateur and Professional (restaurant). The deadline to enter is January 18, and there is no charge to compete.

Chili cooks will be competing in the Battle of the Bowl for prizes, trophies, and ribbons. They will be judged on best aroma, consistency, originality, color, bite, flavor, and heat. Each contestant must provide four gallons of chili in a crock pot; it can be mild, medium or hot. Samples are free to the public.

The Winter on the Green Festival takes place every Saturday from January 7 until February 11. The January events include the Ice Fest, a Winter Carnival, and a Winter Sports day. The Ice Fest will feature professional ice sculptors, the Winter Carnival will have games and crafts, and the Winter Sports day will feature ice bowling and a snow sled run.

All of these events will offer a way to warm up on a cold winter’s day. Residents of Frankfort and visitors will likely find out about the events through locally distributed flyers.

The Chili Cook-Off will be held at Briedert Green on January 28 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. To learn more about this and the other events, call 815-469-4352.
