Boost in Florence hospitality industry traced to several sources

Hotels in the Florence area are doing a booming business, and recently two more opened up in the city with others in the planning stage.

Stats from the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau show that, counting the recently opened Home2 Suites and Comfort Suites, Florence is home to 2,589 rooms spread out over 29 hotels. According to Florence business and community development director Josh Hunt, hotel operators are scouring the city for sites to erect five additional new hotels.

A variety of factors figure into the growth of hotels here, and these include an increase in low-cost airline flights to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and a thriving tourism sector. The increased Amazon presence in Northern Kentucky and the Kentucky Speedway just a few miles away in Sparta have contributed as well.

Typically, the city’s hotels average an 84% occupancy rate, but during high-profile races at Kentucky Speedway or other area events, they frequently go up to 100%. Moreover, Florence’s proximity to Downtown Cincinnati as well as the airport make it a convenient location for travelers here on business or for leisure to seek accommodations.

Increasingly, Florence can be seen as an ideal location from which to access Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky attractions; a point that city official will no doubt be emphasizing in ever-increasing detail in future tourism brochures.
