A major fundraiser is on the books, with the Hope Golf Classic for the benefit of the American Cancer Society being held soon at the Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township, which is about 13 miles from Farmington Hills.

There are a number of activities that have been designed to make the day a great deal of fun for participants. Golfers will be treated to free beer, soda, or water for the entire time they are on the golf course, and they are encouraged to bring their friends and family members to play with them.

Contests are planned, and there will be dinner following the golfing, as well as dancing to the music of the popular band Collision Six. There is also a silent auction planned.

The admission fee includes a team scramble, a full 18 holes of play, box lunch, a cocktail hour that includes appetizers and a ticket for one drink, a dinner buffet, special gifts for golfers, dancing, and awards. Prizes will be awarded for various contests such as putting, and the longest drive. Non-golfers are invited to come for dinner, and people can sponsor a hole for $100.

The golf classic is set for Monday, August 21, and the fee is $175 per person. Outdoor events can be enhanced if organizers display colorful, attractive banners to help decorate the venue.
