Fairfield enjoys music from Nutcracker

December 4, 2017 by

The traditional ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ will be performed in two different events at a nearby venue.

The first will be the traditional ballet presented on two afternoons for the 26th year by the New England Ballet Company. Clara will once again be receiving her beloved nutcracker from her toymaker godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer. She will be saved by her hero in the battle between toy soldiers the rat king and transported to a magical kingdom of the dancing flowers, a Sugar Plum fairy, and the Snow Queen. Many scenes from this ballet are reminiscent of traditional Victorian holiday cards. The Artistic Director and choreographer will be Victor Trevine.

Excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s ballet and all of his Symphony Number 5 will be part of the ‘Holiday Interlude’ program that will be presented a couple of weeks afterward. This will be presented by the Greater Bridgeport Symphony along with Tales of the Vienna Woods by Strauss and a Hanukkah/Christmas singalong. Part of the Nutcracker presentation will include world-renown cellist Allison Edredge, Hudson Ragins (a 10-year-old pianist), and Zoe Lonsinger (a 12-year-old violinist).

Both events will be at the Klein Memorial Auditorium at 910 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport’. The two-and-a-half-hour Nutcracker will be on December 9 and 10 when the curtain will rise at 1:00 pm on both dates. Holiday Interlude will be on December 16 at 8:00 pm.
