Fairfield announces opening day parade for Miracle League Fields

April 4, 2018 by

The City of Fairfield has announced the date for the 2nd Annual Opening Day Parade to celebrate the opening of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. The parade will line up and leave from Sacred Heart Church, follow Mississippi Drive to Groh Lane, and then to the Miracle League Fields.

The 2018 Grand Marshall is Ronnie Oester, former second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds. Oester is unusual in that he spent his entire career playing for a single team. He was part of the team that won the World Series in 1990, and was inducted into the Reds’ Hall of Fame in 2014. City officials and parade organizers are encouraging people to turn out and cheer for the parade participants.

The late Joe Nuxhall, who was an announcer and a Reds pitcher who is also in the team’s hall of fame, was the person who came up with the idea of a baseball park designed just for people facing various challenges, including physical disabilities. Although Nuxhall never saw the field he dreams of, his son Kim took up the cause, and completed the project.

The parade is set for this Sunday, April 7, with marchers asked to line up between 9:00 and 10:00 am, and step off at 10:00 am.

Events like this can be even more fun when organizers work with a banner printing company to create banners to decorate the parade route.
