Evanston families to ring in 2017

December 9, 2016 by

First Night Evanston is taking place this New Year’s Eve.

This is a family-friendly event that will be held in both indoor and outdoor venues throughout downtown Evanston.

There is set to be music, dance, poetry, and other entertainment. For those with young children there will be programming aimed at them from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. This will include balloon animals, art activities, jugglers, dancers, fiddlers, and the music of Layla Frankel’s Song Circle.

Among those who will be performing at this year’s festival are The Poets of Rhino, storyteller Shannon Cason, Gerald McClendon’s Motown Sock Hop, and The Actor’s Gymnasium, which is an acrobatic act.

Applications are still being accepted for volunteers to help make sure everything runs smoothly. Organizers are also looking for sponsors to ensure this event will continue next year.

As with all First Night events, there will no doubt be a countdown to midnight and possibly a fireworks display. It is likely that flyers will be distributed in Evanston and other nearby communities to advertise this family festival.

First Night Evanston will take place on December 31 beginning at 7:00 pm. Wristbands can be purchased for $20 in advance for adults or $25 at the gate, and $10 for children between the age of 8 and 18. VIP tickets are available for $100 which includes reserved seating.
