Folk music star to appear in Edison

November 6, 2017 by

Mara Levine, a popular folksinger, will be in Edison soon, bringing her unique talents to audiences in the area.

Levine is both a singer and jewelry designer; an unusual combination perhaps illustrating the fact that talent in one area often inspires work in another.

Levine has interpreted contemporary and traditional folk songs for many years. Since 2002, she has sung in a number of ensembles, and as a hired vocalist. At the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference in 2009, Ron Olesko nominated her for the Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase. In 2014, NERFA honored her again by selecting her for a Quad showcase.

The singer can often be found on national tours, frequently sharing the boards with Gathering Time. A recent tour took them to Maryland, Washington, D.C., Colorado, and Toronto, and in 2018, they will be on their way to Germany to take part in a festival.

‘Jewels and Harmony’, Levine’s second album, hit the #1 spot on the folk chart in January 2013, and the album reached #3 overall in the folk chart for that year. Two songs from the album became particularly popular, giving Mara the title of “most played artist” of the month.

Levine is scheduled to appear at the Our Lady of Peace Parish Center in Edison on November 20. Organizers of events like this could work with a flyer printing company to create a program of the performance.
