Lexington goes green

May 26, 2017 by

Early in June, Bluegrass Greensource will be hosting Green Fest 017 – its Third Annual Sustainability Block Party.

This will be an opportunity for Lexington residents to catch up on the latest information on living green. The host for the event will be Tom Ackerman from LEX 18.

Ecofriendly vendors will be selling merchandise, products and services as well as passing out flyers, brochures and custom business cards to aid guests in their quest for saving the environment. Food and beverage vendors will also be onsite.

Throughout the day, 30-minute living green workshops will be held by regional experts in sustainable living. Most sessions will be located in the Bluegrass Greensource offices. Some topics will include raising chickens in your backyard, implementing solar panels and energy efficiency, and beekeeping. Other topics will be bike repair and maintenance, sustainable travel, downsizing to a sweet life, and small space gardening.

Local gardeners are encouraged to bring a plant for exchange. Several flowers and trees can be purchased on site with proceeds from these sales going to Bluegrass.

Children are invited to attend the eco-inspired kids’ activities. Local artists will be busily painting rain barrels for guests to take home.

The event is slated for Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Bluegrass Greensource, 835 National Avenue, Lexington. This event will take place rain or shine.
