Fourth of July to be celebrated in Lexington

June 24, 2013 by

Lexington is set to be alive with activities and family fun next month, as its residents mark Independence Day. The events will take place over four days in the downtown area of the city.

Some old-fashioned fun is planned with the Ice Cream Social and Great American Pie Contest kicking off the fun at 12:00pm on July 2. The Young at Heart Jazz Band will also perform during the afternoon of July 2.

During the next day, the Young at Heart Jazz Band will again offer performances from 5:30pm until 7:30pm at the Gratz Park. A special patriotic music concert will also be presented at the Transylvania University at 8:00pm.

Moving into the nation’s anniversary day of July 4, the Bluegrass 10,000 Foot Race begins promptly at 7:30am and will be followed by the Street Festival at 9:00am, which will run until around 6:00pm.

Music, children’s craft activities and vendor exhibits will add to the daily fun, with a Kidz Zone set up in the parking lot.

Vendors often work with local printing companies to produce supplies for their booths or exhibits. Business card printing, for example, is important as vendors like to give out the cards to people visiting their booths for the purpose of potential future business.

The Red, White and Boom Concert will conclude the weekend’s events with a performance at Whitaker Bank Ballpark beginning at 6:00pm on July 5. The event’s official website has admission pricing and more details about the festival.
