At the recent annual meeting of the Hanscom Federal Credit Union, seven high school students were awarded scholarships, including a Devens resident.

There were two students from the local United States Air Force Junior ROTC and seven who were members of the credit union, each receiving $1,500 to help pay for expenses related to college.

They were awarded the John F. Condon Scholarship, named for a former member of the board of the Hanscom Federal Credit Union who volunteered for the credit union for 26 years and made a significant contribution to its success. Those who receive this award are to write an essay with additional merits based on extracurricular activities and academic record.

The recipients of this scholarship were Jessica Zheng of Saratoga, California; Rebecca Li of Devens; Tyler Kitts of Silver Spring, Maryland; Nathan Coram of Dracut; and Olivia Cigna of Wilmington.

Scholarships were also given to the top cadet at Lowell High School, Cadet Colonel Tara Thorn Hong of Lowell, and from Bedford High School, Cadet Lt. Colonel Daniel Smith of Billerica.

Chairman of the Board of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Paul Marotta, said everyone is very proud of these recipients who are the future of the country.
