Opera House to present zany production

October 31, 2015 by

The Lexington Opera House will soon be presenting ‘The Producers’.

The Mel Brooks musical will be here in just a couple of weeks, offering a mix of song and dance, comedy, and witty banter.

The Producers was originally a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical play adapted from the 1968 movie of the same name starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Both the movie and the play were written by Brooks. Since that time, the play has been put on by numerous theatrical companies across the country.

The play follows the story of a Broadway producer who teams up with his accountant to create the biggest flop that Broadway has even seen. They figure that the only way for the play to make any money is to oversell the success of the show to a group of investors.

The play features both zany comedy and song and dance, sometimes combining the two along with intentionally bad accents, irreverent caricatures, and a host of arcane showbiz humor bits. Those planning to attend may want to bring along digital business cards for exchanging with their fellow patrons during the intermission.

The Producers will be offered Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Sunday at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm, November 13 to 15, at the Lexington Opera House, 401 West Short Street, Lexington. Ticket prices will vary by seating and show times.
