Annual event collects vegetables for the needy

July 31, 2015 by

The 4th Fresh Veggie Jam is taking place this August in nearby Phoenix.

The goal of the event is to collect vegetable donations to be given to those in the community who cannot afford to buy them. In over three years, this event has collected almost 1,000lb of vegetables for local food banks.

Admission is free of charge and visitors do not have to bring a vegetable donation, but it is appreciated. When they get there, visitors will be treated to live music from performers such as Don White, the John Dough Boys, The Legendary Good Times, Jive Coulis, and Black Ink Breakdown

There will also be lots of children’s activities, food for purchase, and a beer garden. Vendors will be on hand to sell either general merchandise or arts and crafts such as handmade clothing, jewelry, ceramics, and paintings.

The flyer that is currently advertising this event was probably created by a local printing company. Distributing this in the area will probably attract people from nearby communities such as Medford.

The Fresh Veggie Jam will take place at Blue Heron Park in Phoenix on August 15 beginning at 12:00 pm, with music starting at 1:00 pm. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted. To find out more about this yearly event, visit the Facebook event page.

Convention brings the stars to Louisville

July 31, 2015 by

The Fandomfest Comic Expo is taking place for three days next month in Louisville. It is a celebration of comic, movies, and other aspects of popular culture.

This year’s convention will feature some of the biggest stars of modern cinema, including Kevin Smith, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, and Billy Dee Williams. There will also be TV stars such as Tom Wopat from the Dukes of Hazzard and Billie Piper from Doctor Who. The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be making an appearance too.

Cosplay (costume) contests, panel discussions, a film festival, and question and answer sessions with the celebrities will add to the entertainment. The celebrities will sign autographs and pose for photographs with fans, and there will also be several parties and a Kids’ Zone.

There are several VIP experiences available that cost $175 and up depending on the celebrity.

As with most comic book conventions, one of the most popular areas will probably be the vendors’ room. Fans will be able to buy a wide variety of items here, including photographs, posters, movies, and comic books.

To spread the word about this event in Louisville, organizers may invest in flyer printing services.

The Fandomfest Comic Expo is being held at the Kentucky International Convention Center from August 7 to 9. Tickets are $60 for all three days, $30 for Friday or Sunday, and $40 on Saturday. Visit the Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
