Danbury to feel the heat this month

The Danbury Westerns will be hosting their 5th Annual Danbury Westerners Big Chili 5K in a couple of weeks. USATF course certification will be new this year.

The course will be flat and fast. It will start and finish behind the Danbury Sports Dome and go through nearby Bethel. Timing will be performed by Greystone Racing.

At the finish line, inside the dome, bowls of chili and refreshments will be waiting for the finishers. Winners of each of the seven age categories will get awards.

Registration can be completed online or by mail. Early registration is $25, and after February 16 up until Race Day the fee will be $30.The first 50 registrants will receive winter ski caps as event promotional products.

Inside the Dome, children in two age categories will have their own races on the venue’s track. Those kids aged 5 through 8 years old will run one lap, while ages 9 through 12 will run two laps. Free registration and free T-shirts will go to those children who register. T-shirt supplies are limited.

The Chili 5K is scheduled for Sunday, February 19 at the Danbury Sports Dome, 25 Shelter Rock Lane, Danbury. The race will start at 10:00 am. The Younger Kids Run will begin at 9:15 am, and the older kids’ race will begin at 9:30 am. Snow date will be March 5.
