Danbury celebrates the taco

August 4, 2017 by

Danbury has the honor of being the site of the 1st Annual Connecticut Taco Festival. This will be a day of tacos, Mexican beverages, and Lucha Libre Wrestling.

Food trucks and local restaurants will be featuring their various taco specialties. Some of the restaurants will be Rubamba and El Coyote, and the lineup of food trucks will include Pork Friends and Co., and Brazilian Gula Grill. The former will be offering a roasted veggies taco along with its pulled pork mole. Guests will receive two voting coupons to decide the best taco when they purchase their admission tickets.

Lucha Libre Wrestling champions Jerry Lawler, Rey Mysterio, the Laredo Kid and Garza Jr. will be participating in wrestling matches. Fans can meet and greet Rey Mysterio and receive an autographed photo. No doubt many will be buying some of his promotional products beforehand to wear and bring to the event.

There will be taco-eating contests with a grand prize of $1,000, and kids’ activities like piñatas and face painting. Live music and dance performances will be presented by a mariachi band, Yale’s Ballet Folklorico Mexicano, and Fred Astaire Dance Studio.

Some vendors will be LuLaRoe, Hoardable Hot Sauce, Tupperware, Raising Wallz, and Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski.

The inaugural Connecticut Taco Festival will kick-off Saturday, August 26 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm at the Danbury Ice Arena, 1 Independence Way.
