Dana Point’s Stonehill Tavern to be replaced by steakhouse

A Bourbon Steak restaurant is to be opened in Dana Point by Chef Michael Mina at the Stonehill Tavern’s location.

The Bourbon Steak franchise is known for poaching meat in butter and then finishing the cooking process on the grill. When possible, the restaurant will use local sourcing.

Chef Mina has prepared meals for Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, in addition to cooking at the James Beard House as a guest chef.

The items available at the new eatery will be varied with the main features being American skirt steak, a Japanese A5 strip loin and Mina’s specialty Lobster Pot Pie. Made with locally sourced lobster, the pie contains black truffles, Hamakua mushrooms, and a brandied lobster cream.

Among the beverage options will be a wine list containing various vintage California, Burgundy and Bordeaux classics, as well as American and Japanese whiskey choices.

The Dana Point location will the first location in Orange County for the Mina Group, which manages 29 eateries across the country. The Dana Point Bourbon Steak location will be the sixth franchise, and although it is the third one in California, marketing services will likely be employed aggressively.

The Stonehill Tavern at Monarch Beach Resort will close on December 31, and in February 2018 the new Bourbon Steak restaurant will open.
