Dana Point in for a whale of a time

The first two weekends in March will find Dana Point celebrating its 46th Festival of Whales, which has grown over the years to become one of the premier seafaring celebrations in Southern California.

A variety of groups have joined together to make this year’s festival the best one ever, including the City of Dana Point, OC Parks, Dana Point Harbor Association, and the Dana Point Times. An extensive array of activities is planned for the four-day event, with each weekend having its own unique series of events. Those interested in purchasing products containing the Festival of Whales logo design will find several locations to oblige them.

Several transportation opportunities will be offered throughout the Festival of Whales. Free shuttles service from the majority of parking lots to primary event locations will be available between the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with special shuttles available on March 4 for the Parade and Street Fair. Complimentary shuttle service will be extended to 6:00 pm on March 12 for the Whale of a Concert.

Every day from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, water taxis will ferry passengers round trip to the Ocean Institute from Dana Wharf. Several companies will offer whale watching tours at varies times each day. Additionally, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Headlands Nature Interpretive Center’s bluff top viewing is an option.
