One-of-a-kind restaurant opening in Dallas’ Design District

Dallas Design District is to get a unique, barbecue restaurant that features an onsite fully functioning Ferris wheel.

Dallas’s new barbecue restaurant, Ferris Wheelers, will be overseen by a real chef and serve craft beer. It will include a 7,000-square-foot patio country music artists, both local and national, will entertain diners.

On the menu will be ribs, brisket, house-made sausage, Carolina-style pork shoulder, and smoked, honey-brined turkey breast. Southern-style side dishes such as BBQ mac and cheese, smoked BBQ beans, jalapeno bacon coleslaw, smoked green beans, and Southwestern potato salad.

The restaurant, situated on 1950 Market Center Blvd., is part of This & That Concepts, which also owns Tiny Victories, High Fives, Whipper Snapper, and Parlay. Doug Pickering, formerly with the NL Group, will serve as Pitmaster for the Ferris Wheelers, which is anticipated to open in late September.

Details of a logo design for the new restaurant’s menu, business cards, and stationery are unknown but it is a good guess that their graphic design will incorporate the business’s signature Ferris wheel.

Pickering is a Dallas native and only turned to a career in barbecue after leaving a job on Wall Street. His wood preference is post oak, which he uses in an offset wood-fired rotisserie. His individual taste in barbecue is a mix of Texas, Memphis, and Kansas City styles.
