Conroe celebrates the season

Conroe is gearing up for the holidays with a couple of free events coming in a few days. Thousands of holiday revelers are expected to attend.

Our annual Christmas Celebrations will provide two real snow hills for sledding and snowman building. Artists will be onsite for face painting, and kids can get up close and personal with animals at the petting zoo. There will be pony, train, carriage and camel rides, and a live nativity. The site will have plenty of arts, crafts, merchandise, and food vendors.

Later in the afternoon the Kiwanis Club will be presenting it 39th Annual Children’s Christmas Parade. The theme this year will be ‘It’s A Wonderful Christmas’. Political, nonprofit, schools, and commercial organization representatives will be part of the walking units, on decorated pickup trucks and glitzy floats pulled by tractor trailers. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winning floats. Bands, classic cars, fire trucks, police cars, and dance teams will also be part of the procession, with Santa himself the last entry.

After the parade, Santa will be talking with the kids and sitting for photos. Many families will take these photos to local printing companies to have them made into holiday cards.

Conroe Christmas Celebration will be Saturday, December 9 from 11:00 am until around 5:00 pm in downtown Conroe. The Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade will also be on December 9 and will step off at 1:00 pm and march through the downtown area
