City celebrates its Best of the Springs winners

Each year, the Colorado Springs newspaper runs a contest to name the ‘Best of the Springs’. This year, the paper naming the winners was published Thursday, April 13, and hundreds of people got together at the Pikes Peak Center on the day to see who won this year.

While they partied, they enjoyed tasting samples of food from restaurants throughout Colorado Springs, enjoyed tarot card readings and massages, and listened to live music.

The music was provided by Brian Hepperle, a disc jockey who plays his music using the name HEPS DJ. This year, Hepperle won the gold award in two categories: event DJ and wedding DJ. He said it was an honor to be asked to participate and was humbled by being chosen a winner.

The silver medal for Best Dress Shop went to the Barracuda Bazaar. The owner, Kim McKenna, brought her family and all her employees to the party, saying they’d made it a family affair.

The theme the magazine chose this year was “top dog”, pairing well with Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, which received $10 donations at the party. The Society won the gold medal for best nonprofit. Gretchen Pressley, the Society’s spokeswoman, said the money would go directly back into the organization’s programs.

Events like this can benefit if organizers use festive banners to decorate the venue.
