Colchester birders welcomed to winter waterfowl event

Avian enthusiasts in Colchester, and those who are interested in finding out more about the waterfowl that can be found in the local area, may wish to save the date for an upcoming special event.

Audubon Vermont will be hosting an occasion that will be dedicated to ducks, geese, and other birds that can be found on or around the water. It will be led by Maeve Kim, who will be facilitating an indoor workshop, followed by an outdoor excursion.

During the outing, the participants will find out more about the birds that make use of Lake Champlain as a wintering ground. They will discover how to identify the various species, learn about what they eat, their migration patterns and life cycles, and other details that can provide an insight into their place in the ecosystem.

Those who plan on attending the workshop are reminded to come dressed for the cold, and they are welcome to bring along their spotting scopes and binoculars, although a limited number of these will be available to borrow by those who do not have their own. An area print company can use comb binding to create simple field guides for this type of event.

The group will be gathering for the indoor portion of the event at Burlington’s Main Street Landing’s Performing Arts Center on January 28. An opportunity to purchase tickets to attend the function can be found on its event listing.
