Annual fair returns to celebrate the end of summer

August 25, 2017 by

The Champlain Valley Fair has returned to the area for ten days beginning this week.

This is an old-fashioned country fair. It is set to feature a midway with rides, games and lots of carnival-type foods to enjoy. There will be concerts at the grandstand by such world-famous artists as John Mellencamp, Brantley Gilbert and Pentatonix; tickets for the concerts vary in price. There will also be free musical entertainment at the Vermont Music Gazebo which will feature local acts. Other performers will include juggler Robert Clarke.

There will be a demolition derby, racing pigs and cooking demonstrations. As with all fairs, there will be a variety of competitions in topics such as art, 4H, gardening and home crafts; there will also be livestock competitions. Other activities will include an ugly cake contest.

It is likely that organizers will have invested in marketing services to ensure that word of the fair spreads to nearby communities such as Hinesburg.

The Champlain Valley Fair will be held in Essex Junction from August 25 to September 3. Tickets per day are $12 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Ride bracelets for unlimited access are $30 per day. For more information about planned events during the fair or how to enter the various contests, call 802-878-5545.
