Longstanding Cincinnati ice cream shop starts serving again

March 10, 2018 by

Zip Dip, a soft ice cream shop in Cincinnati, recently opened for the season, giving everyone hope that spring is on the way. The popular cream whip store has been in business in the same location since 1950.

The shop features a neon sign of an ice cream cone being hit by a lightning bolt, representing an old-fashioned advertising method that calls up feelings of nostalgia. However, it is not only the customers who keep coming back to Zip Dip, but the employees who stick around as well. Instead of hiring a new crew each year, Zip Dip has a staff that stays, on average, five years.

Although there are a few hamburgers and hot dogs on the menu, it is the sweet treats for which Zip Dip is best known. The menu includes soft-serve cones and yogurt cones, sundaes, turtle sundaes, flurries, shakes, floats, malts, parfaits, and ice cream sandwiches. Specialties include chocolate bananas, creamsicles, and cookie monster. For a slight extra fee, customers can get a soft-serve cone with a candy face on it.

The shop is on Drew Avenue in the Bridgetown neighborhood, and is open every day from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm.

Seasonal stores like this might consider distributing promotional products to their first customers to say thank you for their patronage.
