Free parking comes to Champaign

December 2, 2017 by

Champaign officials and merchants would like to encourage shoppers to stay close to home, and in particular, shop in the city’s downtown. To make this easier, and to say thanks for patronizing downtown Champaign restaurants and shops, the city is offering free parking on the Hill Street Parking Deck.

In order to take advantage of the offer, people need to spend $5 or more at one of the restaurants or businesses downtown. They are then eligible to park on the deck for up to four hours, free of charge, on the same day they make the purchase. The offer is good for only one visit per day, from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays. Parking on the deck remains free on Saturdays and Sundays.

People who park on the garage to take advantage of the offer will need to provide proof of the date and time of their purchase to the deck’s cashier. The cashier’s booth is located at the Hill Street exit; the deck itself is at the corner of Randolph and Hill Streets.

There are more than 300 parking spots available for visitors, making it both convenient and easy for people to do their holiday shopping in Campaign’s downtown.

The free parking took effect yesterday, and continues throughout the entire month.

City officials might consider working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, to make sure they know about this offer.
