March 4, 2018 by

Cedar Park has a thriving community of composters, and the city of Austin will be hosting a class for anyone who would like to join this group.

The event, which is being offered for free, is part of the city’s Home Composting Rebate Program. Those who attend will learn about techniques that can they can utilize at home, and also how they can take advantage of a program that will give them a $75.00 rebate on the purchase of a home composting system.

The workshop will discuss how food scraps, yard waste and certain other biodegradable materials can be diverted from the landfill and turned into a valuable soil amendment. This can be used in flower or vegetable beds and it can also be beneficial to lawns.

Along with composting tips, the attendees will learn how they can be successful in making compost, and they will also receive information about the city’s Clean Community Fee and how those who pay this can qualify for the rebate that is being offered. Brochure printing techniques can be used by a printer to create handouts and other informational items for this type of event.

The event is scheduled to take place on April 28th in the Lakeline Farmer’s Market, which is located at 11200 Lakeline Mall Drive in Cedar Park. More details can be found on the Austin Recycles website.
