Two arts events coming to Casa Grande

February 1, 2017 by

Casa Grande residents are invited to release their creativity in two upcoming events, sponsored by the Casa Grande Arts & Humanities Commission of Casa Grande, Arizona.

The first is the Ten-Minute Play Contest, and the second is the Plein Air Painting Event.

Budding playwrights are encouraged to submit their plays for consideration, althought they need to do this by today, February 1. Those entering have to be either part or full-time residents of Arizona, and the plays have to be original and unproduced. The plays’ casts are limited to three characters, one setting, and bare-bones costumes and props. The winner of the contest will see their play given a full production some time in 2017.

The commission is also hosting its fourth Plein Air Painting Event, which is open to anyone using the Plein Air painting technique. Plein Air translates to ‘open air’, and refers to those works created outdoors from life, rather than being done indoors from photographs. The paintings may be pastel, acrylic, watercolor, or oil. Prizes are $500 for an entry by an adult, and $100 for an artist under 18, and artists may paint any outdoor scene they desire, provided it is within the Casa Grande city limits.

The Plein Air event is scheduled for February 25 from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm. Events like these can benefit if organizers use illustrated brochures to list the works of art.
