Cary eats and runs for good cause

June 9, 2017 by

Residents in Cary and the surrounding areas are getting ready for the Pancake and Beer 5k Run/Walk. The morning event combines competition, fundraising, and food.

The 5k will occur on the trails through the woodlands near the Fortnight Brewing Company, so there will be lots of shade for participants worried about the heat. The race is chip timed and prizes will be given out to the leading three male and female finishers as well as the top three males and females in each age category. The awards include a certificate as well as some custom drinkware with the event name printed on it.

The pancake breakfast will run concurrently with the 5k and includes bacon and a free pint of beer. All visitors will also receive a free t-shirt. VIP access is also available to those who raise extra funds or sell mission mile markers to companies. The markers will be used to mark out the course and will bear the name and logo design of the company. An award will be given to the top three fundraisers. All proceeds go to benefit NC MedAssist, a program that helps provide medication to the uninsured.

The Pancake and Beer 5k will be held on June 17 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Fortnight Brewing Company, located at 1006 SW Maynard Rd. Registration costs $30 before June 10, $35 after, and $40 the day of the event. For more information, please visit the website.
