Carlsbad organic gardening workshop planned

March 4, 2018 by

Growing fruit and vegetable sat home can be feasible for many households, and a Carlsbad area workshop will teach members of the pubic how they can use organic methods in their own garden.

The hands on style seminar will share secrets of successful organic gardening while explaining the health benefits of food that is grown in this way. It is open to people of all ages, but anyone 15 or under will need adult supervision.

The workshop, which will include an outdoor component, will start with the basics of soil preparation. Tips will also be shared about selecting and starting seeds or planting transplants, and also what cultivars do best in the local climate.

A portion of the event will be dedicated to plant care, and also how to manage weeds and insect pests using organic control measures. Companion planting is also on the agenda, as are harvesting techniques and ideas about how to make use of any excess veggies or fruit that is harvested.

The workshop is scheduled to begin at 9:30 sharp, and check in will be at 9:15. Participants are asked to wear a hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. A raffle has been planned for anyone who arrives before 9:30. A printing services provider will be able to craft simple horticultural manuals and other materials for an educational event like this.

The Organic Vegetable Gardening session will be taking place on April 7th at 1952 Sycamore Drive in San Marcos. The organizer’s website includes more details.
