Canton’s young leaders host prom on behalf of literacy program

March 4, 2017 by

The Young Leader’s Society of the United Way in Canton, Ohio, will host the upcoming Canton Prom.

The dance is a fundraising effort on behalf of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which is a partnership between Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health, and the United Way of Greater Stark County.

The Imagination Library, which Parton started in 1995, mails one free book every month to children who are registered in the program, from the time they are born until they are five years of age. The books selected are based on the age of the child, and are chosen by experts in the fields of writing and education. The aim of the program is to encourage children’s love of learning.

The books that are distributed by the Imagination Library program are a mix of contemporary and classic nonfiction and fiction, all suitable for children.

The Canton Prom is open to the public, and will include a DJ, photographer, cash bar, and dessert. The dance requires formal dress, and will be held March 25 from 8:00 until 11:00 pm at the Historic Onesto, on Second Street NW.

Tickets are $30 for individual admission, and $50 for couples. Attendees over the age of 21 may buy tickets online or by text, or paper tickets are available at United Way of Greater Stark County.

Events like these can benefit if organizers work with a banner printing company to create festive streamers for the occasion.
