The Canton-based firm Peoples Services Inc., a logistics company, has acquired The Grimes Companies’ assets, which are located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Grimes provides staffing, freight brokerage, trucking, packaging, and warehousing services through its five different business units. Acquiring Grimes will allow Peoples Services to greatly expand its distribution and warehousing efforts in the southeast.

The two businesses together will operate in seven states, where they offer 42 locations totaling over 7.5 million square feet of warehousing, both contract and public. Grimes Trucking Services, one of Grimes’s business units, has a fleet comprising 194 trailers and 83 tractors. For its part, Peoples Services is listed as the No. 18 refrigerated warehousing firm on the Transport Topics Top 50 Logistics Companies in North America. It came in at No. 58 on the list of North American dedicated contract carriers.

Grimes’s various units will continue operating as before, but as a wholly-owned Peoples Services subsidiary. Doug Sibila, the CEO of Peoples Services, said the acquisition added over 100 employees and seven new locations to the company, which will enable it to provide greater flexibility and service to Grimes’s customers.

Transactions like this are complex and affect many people, so company representatives might consider working with a brochure printing company to create informative booklets that describe the reorganization, as well as the enhanced services to be provided in future.
