New week is business networking time for Torrance residents at the Bodega Wine Bar, 814 Broadway in Santa Monica.

This event, which begins at 6:30 pm next Wednesday, December 18, will offer business professionals an opportunity to network with their peers. Networking is an important skill to work on, especially in today’s job environment where it is arguably the primary way to find jobs and get hired.

Each participant should bring 15 – 25 traditional or digital business cards, which can be produced at a local printing company, to hand out. Admission is $5.

Also on Wednesday, at 7:30 pm, business professionals can learn how to conduct brand research through social media at General Assembly LA, 1520 Second Street, Santa Monica. Learning the different ways it can be used and how to market effectively through social media is becoming increasingly important, with 93% of marketers now using it.

Freelance digital strategist Kaitlin Maud will lead the class, which will teach participants how to move their brand forward and conduct research on social channels. It will also provide an overview of tools online and how activity translates into customer insights. Anyone who is considering an online business might also benefit from attending this class. It could also prove to be helpful in expanding the reach of brick and mortar businesses.

Maud is a freelance digital strategist with a background in advertising. She has previously spoken at Emerson College, AIGA, Microsoft and TEDx.
