Top ranked culinary festival will get cooking in Stockton

April 1, 2012 by

The town will look green and smell delicious in the last weekend of April at the Stockton Asparagus Festival, also called Best of the West Food Fest 2012. The festivities, in its 27th year, will attract guests from all over with thousands of pounds of locally grown asparagus served deep fried or in tri-tip sandwiches, burritos, and pasta.

Promising to be bigger and better than ever, the three-day festival will feature performances on three stages. Sponsors and vendors will be on display, and crowds will enjoy local art, regional wines, rides and entertainment for kids, and the renowned “Chef of the Fest” competition and kitchen presentation.

The festival is a boon for local businesses, especially restaurants, hotels, and print companies. Communities also benefit from the over $5.5 million the festival has raised for charity in its span, and they will show their support in Saturday’s annual “Great Spear-It Run”. In preparation for the April 27th launch, booth design and banner printing have already begun in earnest all over Stockton.

Between meals, food and drink enthusiasts from all over the region can treat themselves to sea lion performances and canine entertainers, as well as local bands and American Idol finalist Bucky Covington.

Ranked by some of the finest culinary critics as one of the best food festivals in America, its “Asparagus Alley” cooked up 36,000 pounds of fresh asparagus at last year’s celebration.

Tickets are on sale now, maps and information can be found at the organizer’s website.
