Organ extravaganza opens in San Diego

July 4, 2012 by

For the 2012 International Summer Organ Festival, the Spreckels Organ Society has scheduled very well-known organists each Monday in July. The 2012 July line-up includes British organist Simon Gledhill and Tom Trenney, the latter of whom was the first prize winner in the American Guild of Organists’ National Competition. Other performers include Disney’s El Capitan Theatre organist Ty Woodward, “First Lady of the Organ” Diane Bish, and Carlo Curley, whose recent performance at Spreckels was one of the best ever according to attendees.

The Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit charitable organization, was founded in 1988 in honor of John Dietrich Spreckels with a mission to preserve, and promote the Spreckels Organ through offering programs. Today, the Society has over 1900 global members and hosts more than 100 concerts annually. Attendance exceeds 100,000 each year and the Society’s musical events offer great music free of charge.

Sponsorship of summer events is taken care of by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Spreckels Organ Society. Printing companies within the San Diego region work closely with the Society and the City of San Diego in providing print services for the events, such as flyer, banner, and business card printing. Printing projects are ongoing as the organization schedules various events and performers each month, hoping to entice a wide and excited audience to all the events that they hold.

The Spreckels Organ Society website contains more information about the organization, its history, and the entertainment schedule. Their phone contact number is (619) 702-8138.
