San Clemente is expected to be home to Orange County’s first cooperative grocery store in the near future. The San Clemente Community Market incorporated as a California Co-op nearly one year ago. The Co-op venture has secured more than 1,000 community members so far. It needs 500 more member-owners to meet its goal.

The market’s 2012 membership drive is underway to recruit additional members to join the Co-op that’s located in the central part of the city. The market is stocked with natural and organic produce and household items. Co-op member-owners will elect a board of directors to oversee operations, according to Steering Community member Laura Engeman.

Brochure printers could be called upon to picture and provide information about the variety of healthy foods and green items available Co-op. The market is well-stocked with grass-fed organic beef, wild salmon, dolphin safe tuna, whole grains and Artisan foods, just to name a few. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten and wheat -free food items are among the specialty diet foods that also are sold.

Co-op customers also have access to prepared salads, sandwiches, soups, smoothies that are featured at the Co-ops cafe. The cafe also includes an espresso bar. Customers will find a number of biodegradable cleaning products on store shelves.

San Clemente residents have access to the highest quality whole foods at reasonable prices and environmentally-friendly household items while shopping in a pleasant, stress-free atmosphere the company’s website states.
